Can my dog eat mushrooms and onions?
Store bought mushrooms can be a great low-calorie treat if given in moderation. Never allow your dog to eat wild mushrooms though - there's no way to verify the type. It is best to NOT feed onions to your dog. They contain an ingredient called thiosulphate which is toxic to cats and dogs. The ingestion of onions causes a condition called hemolytic anemia, which is characterized by damage to the red blood cells. Onion toxicity can cause the red blood cells circulating through your pet's body to burst.
